The state has reached a $3.5 million settlement with corporate real estate investor Wedgewood, known for its stand-off with Oakland activists Moms 4 Housing. The agreement requires the southern California company to revamp its business practices, adhere to stringent state and local renter protections and submit regular compliance reports to the department of justice, Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Wednesday. Between 2015 and 2019, U.S. fire departments responded to an average of 790 home fires per year that started with holiday decorations, according to a report from the National Fire Protection Association, a leading fire resource. A Berks County man previously sentenced to probation for home improvement fraud in three counties faces new fraud counts after Mohnton police accused him of ripping off two borough homeowners to the tune of nearly 11,000. Joseph Duerr, 39, whose last known address was listed as the 2800 block of Sturbridge Court in Spring Township, was arrested Monday by members of the warrants division of the Berks County sheriff’s office.
